Anticipatory Grief and Processing the Loss of Wayneboy
Losing Wayneboy has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. I hope that sharing our journey can provide comfort to others facing a similar loss.

Understanding Anticipatory Grief
Anticipatory grief is the deep sorrow we feel knowing we're soon to lose a beloved pet. For pet parents, this can be incredibly tough as we witness our pets' decline. Here are some signs to watch for when considering humane euthanasia:

  • Loss of Appetite: Disinterest in food or treats.
  • Decreased Mobility: Difficulty moving or getting up.
  • Incontinence: Loss of bladder or bowel control.
  • Changes in Behavior: Increased irritability, aggression, or unusual quietness.
  • Chronic Pain: Pain not alleviated by medication.
  • Difficulty Breathing: Labored breathing or persistent coughing.

    • Our Experience with Lap of Love
During this challenging time, Lap of Love provided tremendous support. They specialize in veterinary hospice and in-home euthanasia, ensuring pets pass peacefully in familiar surroundings. Dr. Rachel Welch and the Lap of Love team were compassionate and gentle throughout Wayneboy's final moments. From our initial call, their receptionist was patient and understanding. Dr. Welch explained everything clearly, helping us prepare emotionally. Wayneboy's passing was peaceful and dignified, surrounded by so much love and comfort. Lap of Love's support extended beyond euthanasia, offering resources and guidance for coping with our loss and even a deeply compassionate card from Dr. Welch herself.

Honoring Wayneboy with Honor Thy Pet Cremation Services
We worked with Honor Thy Pet to care for Wayneboy after his passing. Founded by the Yebba Family, they provide dignified pet cremations available 24/7. Recognizing the need for respectful options for grieving families, Honor Thy Pet leads with compassion and professionalism. We selected the K9 Paradise urn and flower seeds to create a garden in Wayneboy's memory. Honor Thy Pet's thoughtful approach eased the burden and anxiety in handling Wayneboy's remains.

Processing the Loss of Wayneboy in My Travels Out West
Before Wayneboy peacefully passed at our home in Florida, we had pre-existing plans to travel through Alaska for my 25th birthday. The beautiful landscapes and quiet moments in nature gave me a chance to reflect and process the loss of Wayneboy. I visited cities like Sitka, Skagway, and Juneau, and even made a stop in Victoria, British Columbia. The serenity and beauty of these places brought me back to my travels with Wayneboy across the US together! During my trip out west, I saw the number 24 repeatedly, reminding me of Wayneboy, whose birthday was April 24th and who passed on June 24th. The ferns I saw felt like a symbol of renewal and protection, bringing me comfort. These signs, combined with the peaceful surroundings, helped me feel connected to Wayneboy more than ever.
